Description
Untitled Yellow Ceramic Sculpture by Elena Rakochy
This captivating glazed stoneware sculpture features a dynamic composition of rounded, flat, and hexagonal-shaped elements, artfully juxtaposed with twisted portions for a striking contrast.
Artist Bio and Statement:
Elena Rakochy is a talented sculptor based in Chicago, specializing in clay while drawing inspiration from nature and interpersonal connections. With a multicultural upbringing in Evanston, Illinois, she holds a BA in Spanish from Knox College and an MFA from Indiana State University. Currently, she oversees the Ceramics program at the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School.
In her free time, Elena enjoys Chicago sports, gardening, playing duplicate bridge, studying Catalan, and visiting Celrà, Spain. Her artist statement reflects her belief that art serves as a medium to explore how various aspects of life influence decision-making. She emphasizes the organic nature of her work and its inspiration from the connections between people and their environments. Elena sees her sculptures as entities that interact with and influence their surroundings, much like the interplay between individuals and their contexts.
This exquisite sculpture is not just a piece of art; it is an exploration of relationships and the dynamic influences of the world around us. (No maker's mark.)
