Description
Large Fairyland Lustre vase decorated in the Pillar design (pattern number Z5360). Pattern depicts the fantastic palace of Hsi Wang Mu, the Chinese Queen of the Fairies. Rising from a lake with pine, plum and peach trees growing on the shores. The hairy-tailed tortoise swims in the water. These are all symbols of longevity. Bronze pillars seperate the three highly decorated panels. Flame fairyland sky and ground. 'Portland Vase' backstamp and shape number 2409 to the underside. 'Z5360' painted in script to the underside. Pattern illustrated on page 138/9, 'Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre' by Una des Fontaines.

Documentation: Signed Period: 1920-1949 Materials: Bone china, Lustre glazed Condition: Good. Very good. No restoration. Almost nil wear and rubbing to the gilding. Kiln effects: A few patches of thin glaze application, where the white body of the vase shows through. Not detracting, but mentioned for accuracy.
