Description
WILHELM SCHADE
German, 1892-1958
Stalking Panther
Patinated bronze | Signed to base "SCHADE", foundry marking cold-stamped to edge "Lauchhammer Bildguss" | cast circa 1920s
Item # 303LNW16P
A distinctly Art Deco modeling of a Stalking Panther with an overall mechanistic aesthetic, the sleek cat has been reduced to its most essential elements, almost an image of the shadow he produces as he plods along across the plane. Finished in a translucent dark-brown patina with a host of other very subtle hues coming through the surface, it positively glows. The austere base is signed SCHADE and is foundry sealed along the vertical edge.
Measurements: 10 3/8" W x 4 1/2" H x 2 7/8" D
Condition Report:
Original patina in well-preserved condition with light handling wear along the ridges of his back, tips of ears and ribs. Tail with a visible roman pin - tail joint was tightened with a tiny filled hole along the lower edge of the seam (barely visible). Cleaned and polished, a fine presentation. -
