Authentic 19th Century Indian Amritsar Botanic Design Hand Knotted Wool Rug

$ 12,000
  • Description
    Carpets form Amritsar are distinguished by luxurious feel and extremely indulgent textures. These Indian rugs are characterized by large scale patterns featuring the millefleur designs, mythical beasts and Persian-inspired florals. This vibrant late 19th century Indian Amritsar rug is a beautiful example of Amritsar craft. Its rich ruby red field carries a large-scale pattern of enlarged palmettes, flowering vinery and cloudbands within an olive green palmette border. Despite its old age, the antique rug looks as if it was just taken down from the looms thanks to excellent workmanship. It was carefully knotted by hand out of high-quality wool in accordance with traditional techniques – if properly maintained, the rug will withstand years of usage without the slightest signs of wear.
