This turn of the century antique Turkish features a center medallion of the herati pattern and intricate floral and geometric abstractions, stylized birds and jaguars consistent with common Oriental rug motifs. The muted patina of this exotic piece is a common staple of valued antique carpets. A stylized design of a flower usually centered in a diamond and framed by diagonal leaves and also known as the "fish pattern," the herati design is a commonly occurring motif in Oriental rug-weaving. Decorative Turkish carpets from Sivas, in the southeast of Turkey in central Anatolia, are finely woven and formal, tending to interpret the classical Persian style with central medallions and floral infill. A palette of soft and pale gelato tones in the typical antique Sivas rug makes it more feminine than other any other antique antique Turkish rugs.
