Description
Eastern-European rug art exudes whimsical charm that introduces the atmosphere of warmth and homeliness into any kind of décor while remaining elegant and stately. This magnificent Bessarabian-inspired rug takes the classic floral wreaths and garlands to a whole new level by showcasing them on a light instead of dark background in order to add lightness to the otherwise traditional composition. The main field of the contemporary rug carries an opulent blooming wreath that constitutes the central medallion. It is displayed on an empty field and embraced by a decorative border filled with florals and enhanced by octagonal medallions that refer to the oriental ‘gul’ – elephant footprint motifs – symbols of auspiciousness. The color palette is rich, including shades of pink, red, green, yellow and blue, soothed by the prevalence of off-white. In addition to mesmerizing appearance, the Bessarabian-inspired rug can coast of impeccable workmanship. Carefully hand-woven of the finest wool, the flat weave will serve its owners for generations without any signs of wear, provided minimum amount of care. Doris Leslie Blau carries an exceptional collection of original modern rugs in many styles and materials. Contemporary hand-made rugs are a bridge throughout history, they are the fruit of the constant evolution of the weaving craft that has accompanied men since the dawn of civilization.
