Fine Antique Indian Amritsar Botanic Handmade Wool Rug

$ 85,000
  • Description
    What draws people's attention to antique Indian rugs, is certainly their exotic beauty. Few other types of antique carpets can boast such bold designs and still look amazing. Drawing inspiration from old traditions, Indian rugs can tell us the story of their country. The production of antique Indian rugs dates back to the Mughal period of the late 1520's. Beginning with the conquest of Northern India by Babur, weaving workshops developed around the imperial cities of Agra, Fathpur and Lahore. After Indian rugs gained the attention of British, they became more popular in the West, especially in the United Kingdom.
    This superb antique Indian rug was hand woven in the early 20th century, circa 1920. It's elegant pattern is a perfect example of the beauty that can be found in Indian rugs. The main field includes a stunning restrained trellis of large palmettes and flower heads along with flowering shrubs and vinery. The whole is framed by a border with a pair of thick scrolling vines. The color palette of this piece includes mostly vivacious jewel toned, which did not lose any of their charm despite the rug's age. Stunning reds meet with orange and beige with just a tad bit of brilliant blue to balance everything out.
    The size of this piece, 9'10" × 18'5" (300 × 561 cm), makes it a perfect choice for more spacious types of interiors, especially those which are in dire need of some timeless elegance and mystery of the Orient
