Description
This vintage pile weave comes from the time of the Scandinavian area rugs crossword greatest glory. It was made over half a century ago and until today it remains unspoilt by time and vicissitudes of life due to its remarkable quality. The vintage carpet bag was masterly hand-executed of the finest wool in accordance with old and refined weaving techniques, reaching back to the middle ages. Its style – Rya – was developed many centuries ago in Scandinavia to protect the people, especially the mariners living off the sea, from the harsh weather conditions. The first Ryas were modeled on natural animal fur, hence they are characterized by an exceptionally shaggy, long pile. Despite its historic heritage, the antique rug bears an exceptionally modern design, settled in the aesthetic standards of the 50s’. Stripes, circles and irregular patches create a simple yet striking combination, further enhanced by the bold color palette. The deep sapphire of the background is brought out thanks to black and pastel blue stripes, as well as emerald circles. The light brown and lemon green patches give the rug a finishing touch. This vintage Swedish rya will be a vibrant and eye-catching addition to any contemporary abode.
