This vintage rug is an excellent example of the remarkable and eclectic Samarkand style which combines influences from numerous weaving cultures, including Chinese, Persian or Turkish. Here, the main field carries an intriguing oriental design, incorporating botanical and geometric motifs, built around two bold medallions with an easily perceptible far-eastern vibe. Pomegranates that contribute to the composition are an important Persian symbol of fertility, whereas blossom signify youth and newlyweds. This compelling pattern is enclosed within a series of equally engaging borders bearing further floral motifs, flowering climbers and geometric symbols. The ultimately balanced color palette builds upon solely two toned shades – sandy beige and brown – which together constitute the perfect harmony.
