This circa-1920 antique Persian Malayer rug features an intricate all-over design including the herati pattern, a common staple of Oriental rug weaving. Also known as the "fish pattern," the herati typically consists of a flower centered in a diamond and diagonally framed by leaves. Soft blues and pinks prevail against a neutral beige field, with a blue main border containing floral abstractions completing the look.

Antique Malayer carpets come from the city of Malayer in Iran and were, for the most part, created by individual weavers during the 19th and early 20th centuries. These and carpets are singular in their broad range of designs and color palette, making them stunning artistic creations. The value of the Persian rugs reflects their artistry in that the diversity of design and color is somewhat atypical for other styles of Persian rugs.
