European rugs, renowned for their stately designs and textures, command the same caliber of appreciation afforded oriental oversized area rugs . This French Savonnerie carpet, like almost every other one created pre-20th century, were created for exclusive use of royalty. The field is a staggered array of repeating floral markers. The saturated color scheme of this stately tapestry is a warm tone of golden brown. The majestic central medallion motif is a floral medallion which is rose, celadon and beige colored and framed by a circular vine tendril wreath. The guard border is a rectangular, vine tendril frame design. The central medallion is laterally bookend, from top to base, by a symmetrical and beautiful swan design.
