A vintage Swedish flatwoven rug "Tulpaner"designed by Judith Johansson (1916-1993). The rug is signed 'JJ' at the lower left corner. A truly remarkable piece with a whimsical design incorporating stylized tulips in pastel colors on a light-beige background. Hand-woven from the highest quality materials, this Swedish rug encompasses the love for tradition and the excellent craftsmanship of Scandinavian design. Judith Johansson is recognized as one of the geniuses of 20th-century weaving, Johansson hailed from a rural part of Sweden steeped in textile traditions. She founded her own atelier by the time she turned 30, and is credited with resuscitating the handmade production of Scandinavian flat weave rugs. Her work is known for nature-inspired patterns and geometric abstractions.
