Description
A Swedish flat-weave wool rug designed by Ulla Parkdal with woven initials (UP) at a corner. It is in excellent original condition, consistent with age. The rug features an open blue field with delicate wavy stripes and softly gradated striations run selvage to selvage blending seamlessly from one to the next embraced with a geometric border. The color pallete consists of blue, olive green, aqua green and ivory-beige. Hand-woven from the highest quality materials, this Swedish rug encompasses the love for tradition and the excellent craftsmanship of Scandinavian design. Beautiful fringe on the vintage rug’s top and bottom part is a nice finishing touch, which gives it even more charm. The Northern European lifestyle focuses on cultivating a life that is mindful and joyful. A lack of clutter and emphasis on highly functional, streamlined items lends to this attitude. Organic shapes and natural materials are prominent elements of Scandinavian design. It stems from a culture of living in small rural communities that were generally isolated, requiring reliance on natural materials.

Founded in 1965, Doris Leslie Blau’s rug emporium is the stuff of design legends. For decades it was known as the go-to source for those seeking the best in the unusual antique and avant-garde. Now owned by Nader Bolour, to whom Doris turned over the business, the gallery has not only continued the tradition of carrying the best of antique and vintage pieces, but has also forged ahead to create unique and innovative contemporary and custom rugs as well.
