Persian red wool carpet hall runner

This beautiful wool runner was created in the early 20th Century, c.1900 in north-west Persia. In the 19th-Century this region encompassed the area west of Tehran, north of Bijar and south of Tabriz in Iran. Northwest Persian rugs are valued for their beauty and high quality.

The runner features a bright red field which is woven with stylised blue floral motifs with pink and green highlights. This is framed by a border which is divided into inner and outer guard stripes and a main band. The guard stripes are composed of blue wool woven with red, maroon and orange flowers. The main band features alternating white and red diagonal lines which are outlined with green and blue, and dotted with orange flowers. The outer guard stripe is edged with a slim black band decorated with white floral chains and green, blue and red dots.
