19th century Russian silver samovar

$ 68,750
  • Description
    19th century Russian silver samovar
    Russian, 1875
    Height 42cm, width 28cm, depth 31cm

    This elegant silver samovar was crafted by Russian craftsmen in 1875. Samovars are a very important object within Russian culture making the example in Mayfair Gallery a very desirable addition to one’s collection.

    The refined, fluted body of the samovar is left plain, however, the shaped handles and pierced neck and foot add an eye-catching detail. The silver spout is topped by a pierced handle of a similar design as other, more prominent features of the samovar, such as the neck. A number of pieces, such as the handles are adorned with ivory detailing.

    Four scroll feet attached to a circular base supports the main body of the samovar. This is engraved with a monogram reading HGK in Cyrillic which is encased in a shield.

    The piece is stamped with an assay mark of Ivan Vonifatiyevich Yevstigneyev, with an unidentified maker's mark (possibly Latin J.H for Johann Heinoin), and weighs approximately 3,502 grammes.

    The ivory in this piece has been registered under the ivory submission reference: V1JKZ5L6.
