Description
French 950 silver wine taster, ca 1900. Round with curved and tapering sides; foot ring. Cast scaly snake ring handle; delineated head with bead eyes and clenched jaws, and squiggly tail. At rim, is former proprietor’s name (D Deschamps). Sides have tooled flutes alternating with grapevines. Naif-style ornament evocative of rustic vineyards by a Belle Epoque Parisian silversmith (Henri Soufflot). Marked with Minerva head and maker’s stamp. Very good condition.
