Description
A Korean ceramic porcelain bowl covered in a white glaze with a hint of bluish green circa 18th century, possibly earlier, of the Joseon Dynasty. The deep bowl is relatively large in size and was hand-thrown on the wheel and features a classic form, simple but elegant with everted rim and a short cylindrical foot ring. The glaze was evenly applied revealing potter's wheel lines under the interior rim and subtle circumventing grooves on the exterior. The foot ring is cut short and unglazed, revealing the granules clay and an area with dark kiln grits attached. The hand-made bowl was used domestically to serve foods and shows a slight irregular form due to the hand-made nature.
For a similar white bowl, see illustration 51 of "Five Centuries of Korean Ceramics" by Goro Akaboshi and Heiichiro Nakamaru.
For two other similar bowl, see item koo6727 and koo2706 in the collection of the National Musuem of Korea. -
