Antique Rembrandt Jug in Pewter The Netherlands 18th Century.
A beautiful quintessentially Dutch so called 'Rembrandt' jug in pewter. 18th century. Simple yet sculptural shape and a wonderful patina. These are called 'Rembrandt' jugs because of the alleged use of these kind of jugs in paintings by the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn. But research shows this was never the case.
Signed with a crowned rose on the lid - normally Dutch pieces in pewter are signed at the base, only the 'Rembrandt' jugs are signed at the lid.
Comes in an original condition with one flaw at the lid - one of the hinges is broken off.
