Barbour sterling silver impressive wine chiller or centerpiece punch bowl, beautifully adorned with shell and natural motifs, displaying geometric frieze-like motifs at the top and at the base. It measures 14'' in diameter by 8'' in height, weighs 85.8 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown.
Organized in 1892 in Hartford, Connecticut, Barbour was the product of a consolidation of I. J. Steane & Co., Barbour Hobson Co., and Barbour Bros. Co. Barbour made sterling hollowware. In 1898, it was one of one of the founding companies of International Sterling. The International Silver Company was formed in 1898 by various independent New England silversmiths that, between 1898 and 1903, joined themselves together to form a company that became the world's largest manufacturer of silverware. The International Silver Co. was organized with an authorized capital of $20,000,000.
