Description
Chinese Export "The Lady with a Parasol" plate, after a design by Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759), painted in underglaze blue and overglaze orange (rouge de fer) with a scene depicting a female attendant holding a parasol over her mistress who is feeding three birds, the honeycomb border with alternating cartouches with birds and women.
The Dutch East India Company (VOC) hired Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759) to produce designs to be sent to China and copied onto porcelain for sale in the Netherlands. He produced four designs, "The Parasol" or "The Lady with a Parasol" being the most popular.
