English Silver Plated Cruet Set of Young Boy Leaping in the Air, circa 1873
-
Description
An English figurative silver plated cruet set, registered 1873 with young boy joyously jumping for joy. This charming late 19th century silver cruet set features an elegantly dressed young boy, his arms extended forward, caught in a mid-air jump, in an attitude of celebration. His very communicative sense of freedom does not even seem to be tampered by the rope in which his left foot is caught while his right foot is positioned between the two upper bars of a fence. The rope becomes the frame in which the two lidded containers, made to receive mustard and pepper, are secured. The open container, above which the young boy seems to be leaping, is meant to receive the salt. The impressed registration kite mark in the boy's back allows the set to be dated 1873. With its petite proportions, joyous and gleaming depiction, this English cruet suet will bring a charming touch to any decor.
