Description
A handsome 19th century French faience plate depicting Joan of Arc in high relief, captured as a young soldier holding her standard. The rich palette of turquoise, emerald, and brown, combined with the patriotic mottoes of Gloire and Patrie, reflects the spirited revival of national heroines in French decorative arts during this era.
Circa 1860 - 1880, this original period piece was crafted during a time of renewed romanticism for France’s medieval history and its most celebrated figures.
Hand-painted tin-glazed earthenware featuring a lustrous glaze and a naturally aged patina of fine crazing. Rooted in the Napoleon III tradition, this plate connects to the 19th century revival of earlier French styles, blending historic storytelling with the warmth of provincial craftsmanship. -
