Art Nouveau sterling silver wine cooler. Made by George W. Shiebler & Co. in New York, ca 1890. Amphora with leaf-capped and wrapped double-scroll side handles; wavy mouth rim and domed foot. Classical form with advanced ornament: Cast iris flowers applied to stippled and concentric ovoid frames. Same applied to open tendril foot. Tactile and dynamic. Fully marked including maker’s and retailer’s (Mermod Jaccard Jewelry Co.) stamps, no. 2118, and volume (5 pts). Very good condition with deep patina.
