‘Everything stamped Keller is good,’ said Lucien Folize. The famous silversmith Gustave Keller quickly carved his niche and won appreciation for his work. He established his firm in 1856 and it stood out for its fine quality. His work consistently stole the shine for the simplicity of the beauty of its silverware, ranging from household items like jugs to silver cutlery. His silverwork is one that draws attention to itself, not for its primary purpose, but the bold lines that make its curves and shapes. For this, he won several awards in his lifetime. At the Paris World Exhibitions of 1867 and 1878, he was presented with silver and gold medals respectively. Years later, at the Paris World Fairs of 1889 and 1900, he won the gold medal and Grand Prix respectively and was commissioned to produce important trophies for Monaco’s principality. Keller’s silver is preferred for its subtle but exquisite finish and high functionality which draws clients from the ancient Russian Royal Court, the principality of Monaco and the elite of the society.
