Description
Harrison McIntosh Large Stoneware Bowl, 1959
Large glazed stoneware bowl by Harrison McIntosh, executed in 1959.
The broad, shallow form features a warm rust-brown glaze with a contrasting dark rim and an intricate arrangement of concentric circular motifs across the interior. The rhythmic pattern of overlapping rings and dots creates a sense of movement and depth, while the restrained profile emphasizes the precision and balance characteristic of McIntosh's work.
An accomplished figure in American studio ceramics, Harrison McIntosh developed a distinctive vocabulary of refined vessel forms and geometric surface decoration. Working in Claremont, California, his ceramics combine technical mastery with the clarity and restraint of mid-century modern design.
