Description
Northern Lights sterling silver coffee set, ca 1930. This set comprises coffeepot, creamer, and sugar. Coffeepot and creamer curved and tubular. Coffeepot has high-looping handle and diagonal spout. Creamer has helmet mouth. Sugar has curved bowl. All have reeding and round foot. Traditional forms with cast volute-scroll handle- and finial-mounts as well as forming sugar handles. Classical ornament arranged to suggest the auroral borealis, the colorful and irregular atmospheric light show that occurs in Arctic latitudes.
A Scandinavian motif adapted in the 1920s by Connecticut-based International Silver Co. A hard-to-find pattern in hollowware.
Fully marked including maker’s stamp, no. C156, and letters I (coffeepot) and K (creamer and sugar). Very good condition.
