Description
Collection of cut and engraved glass decanters and dessert glasses
Continental, 20th Century
Glass: Height 12cm, diameter 11cm
Tallest decanter: Height 34cm, diameter 15cm
This striking seven-piece glassware set includes four distinctive decanters and three dessert bowls, showcasing the artistry and skill of European glassmakers in the 20th century.
Demonstrating a range of traditional and inventive forms, each decanter is individually styled yet united by finely cut decorative patterns. The bodies range in shape, including the timeless shouldered form, while the stoppers display a variety of silhouettes - spire, faceted, and mushroom - highlighting a design legacy rooted in innovations from the 18th century onwards. Notably, one of the decanters is etched with the Latin inscription ‘Hinc Sanitas’ (‘From here, health’), the motto of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, beneath which lies a symbol connected to the institution.
The trio of dessert bowls follows a uniform and elegant design. Each features a deep, wide bowl gracefully elevated on a stem and finished with a broad circular base that curves subtly at the edges.
Select items in the set are marked with labels from esteemed manufacturers including Waterford and Orrefors of Sweden.
Perfect for entertaining or display, this unique and well-crafted assortment would make a refined statement in any drinks cabinet or as part of a formal table setting. - More Information
