Shigaraki clay. A Japanese tea bowl, also known as a chawan (??), is a traditional ceramic vessel used in the Japanese tea ceremony, or chanoyu (???), and for drinking tea in everyday life. The tea bowl is a crucial component of the tea ceremony, a highly ritualized practice of preparing and serving matcha, a powdered green tea.
