Description
Two Pickle Dishes Royal Copenhagen ‘Flora Danica’ Porcelain
Danish, Mid-20th Century
Height: 5 cm, Width: 18 cm, Depth: 10 cm
This distinguished pair of mid-20th-century porcelain pickle dishes was produced by Royal Copenhagen as part of the celebrated Flora Danica service, one of the company’s most historically significant and highly prized patterns. Inspired by the 18th-century Danish botanical encyclopaedia Flora Danica, the design reflects a union of scientific precision and refined decorative artistry, exemplifying Royal Copenhagen’s enduring craftsmanship.
Each dish features a central well with an elegant handle, combining functional design with decorative appeal. Crafted in pristine white porcelain, the surfaces are meticulously hand-painted with detailed botanical motifs, identified in Latin on the reverse, in keeping with Flora Danica tradition. The rims are accented with a delicate pink band and finished with gilded beaded edges, enhancing the set’s timeless elegance.
Underside factory marks include black painted botanical titles in Latin, the green printed Royal Copenhagen mark, the blue wave mark, and green painted pattern and shape numbers (“20/3543”), confirming production date and model. These marks attest to the quality, authenticity, and historic significance of the pieces.
Reflecting Royal Copenhagen’s commitment to artistry, functionality, and heritage, this pair of Flora Danica pickle dishes is a distinguished addition to any collection of fine porcelain.
