Description
George V round silver bowl
English, 1931
Height 8cm, diameter 16cm
Crafted by the Chester-based firm of Solomon Blanckensee & Son Ltd. in 1931, this silver bowl exhibits the elegance and style that was characteristic of silver making in the era.
The bowl, shaped in a perfect circle, boasts finely crafted openwork sides, embodying the Art Deco style through a blend of architectural and botanical motifs. The openwork design imparts a delicate and airy feel to the piece.
Decorative bead-and-reel bands, adorned with a stylized floral frieze, elegantly frame the bowl's upper segment. This was a favoured design during the time of the bowl's creation. The wavy formation of the reel further accentuates the bowl's sophisticated appeal.
The bowl is comfortably settled on a tucked-in base, which is further embellished with a bead-and-reel decorative band at the bottom, mirroring the design around the reel. Embossed on the bottom are the maker's and the date marks, testifying to the bowl's history.
With its nod to late Art Deco elegance, this silver bowl serves as a delightful accent to any decor scheme and lends an exquisite touch to any table setting.
