Glazed ceramic. Hand-formed sculptural vessel with abstract surface decoration in green & cream. Sicilian-born and active in Rome, Salvatore Meli drew from the richness and dignity of Etruscan and Greek pottery, establishing a style that was distinct from his contemporaries. Pieces by Meli are very rare to find. Artist signed near bottom. Literature: Domus n. 288, November 1953, p. 43.
