Description
Japonesque mixed metal sterling silver centerpiece bowl. Made by Tiffany & Co. in New York, ca 1879. Round and curved on domed foot; applied plain and wavy mouth rim. Engraved tendrils and applied mottled leaves; bug infestation comprising beetle and butterfly. On foot, creeping crustacean lobster with searching antennae. Spot-hammered ground.
Fully marked including maker’s stamp, pattern no. 5826 (first produced in 1879), and phrase “Sterling Silver / -and- / Other Metals”. Very good condition with nice shimmer and patina.
