Description
A colorful and brilliant example of William Hunt Diederich's art this glazed, footed bowl features a yellow-jacketed matador engaging with a handsome bull, the bull's horns piercing the matador's cape. True to Diederich's style the image features highly-stylized, attenuated figures . The colors - deep browns, canary yellow and a rich, blue-green teal - are luminous and the textures of the clay and glazes are a nod to ancient pottery from Greece and Tuscany. Famous for his horses, hounds and other animals, William Hunt Diederich was one of the masters of Art Deco imagery, working predominatly in iron or ceramic. This bowl available on Showrooms 2220 is signed on the reverse.
