Description
A lovely set of coffee service consisting of a large coffee pot, a sugar and a creamer (this set is of the largest size of this particular model we have seen so far). Made from sterling silver and ebony handles and knobs, the stylish mid-century modern set was designed and made by William Spratling (1900-1967) in Taxco Mexican. It belongs to his third design phrase when he incorporated materials such as wood and shell into his design. The insignia and 65 eagle mark dates the set to 1965-1967, which is the very end of the production before his death. Spratling pioneered the modern movement in Mexico silver design and production and the modern flavor of his piece was often infused with a unique Mexicana flavor using local motifs and materials. Iconic example of his late work in which hinges and pins were exposed as elements of design.
The measurement of the coffee pot is 9.75"h x 8.25"w x 6"d. The sugar: 3"h x 5.75"w x 3"d. The creamer: 3"h x 5.25"w x 3"d.
The model is illustrated on page 105 of "Spratling Silver: A field Guide" by Phyllis M. Goddard. -
