Description
This is an early William Spratling silver pitcher. The wood handle is styled in the form of a parrot. There are wonderful design elements encircling the base of the handle. Spratling’s early mark is stamped on the bottom along with the oval Spratling Silver. It is in beautiful condition. William Spratling’s unique blending of traditional Mexican Colonial, Ranchero and Pre-Columbian designs with modern forms have created a place for him amongst the Masters of 20th Century Modern Silver world wide. Numerous books have been written either by or about him and he was the subject of the film, “The Man From New Orleans”, in 1948. A similar pitcher is in the collection of LACMA. We have 2 similar models.
