Description
The Modern Masters Tapestries is excited to present the stunning tapestry “La Jongleuse” (Female Juggler) intricately woven from the works of the legendary Marc Chagall. Marc Chagall’s partnership with the renowned Atelier Pinton in Felletin, near Aubusson, played a pivotal role in the 20th-century revival of tapestry as a modern art form. Famous for his dreamlike, whimsical style filled with vibrant colors and fantastical imagery, Chagall found a perfect collaborator in Atelier Pinton, which skillfully transformed his paintings into intricate woven masterpieces. This partnership allowed Chagall’s art to transcend the canvas and enter the realm of decorative arts.
The tapestry La Jongleuse is a stunning example of Chagall’s ability to blend the poetic and surreal through the medium of tapestry. Based on one of his paintings, it was brought to life with the meticulous craftsmanship of the Pinton workshop. The piece features a central figure of a female juggler, surrounded by Chagall’s signature floating figures, animals, and jewel-toned hues. The depth and texture of the weaving enhance the ethereal quality of his style, adding a tactile richness to the work.
Chagall’s collaboration with Atelier Pinton bridged the worlds of fine art and textile craftsmanship, reinvigorating tapestry as a major modern art form. Works like La Jongleuse showcase how his fantastical vision was not only preserved but also elevated through tapestry, ensuring his imagery resonated in an immersive and tactile way. -
