Description
Victorian Sampler, 1839, by Emma Kite. The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground. Meandering floral border. Colours green, blue, light brown, silver, black, gold and red. Verse reads, 'What is our God or what his name, Nor men can learn nor angels teach, He dwells conceal'd in radient flame, Where neither eyes nor thoughts can reach. He spake the wondrous word and lo: Creation rose at this command, Whirldwinds and ceas their limits know, Bound in the hollow of his hand.'. Signed and dated 'Emma Kite Worcester 1839.'. Worcester is a town in England, in the midlands. A scattering of motifs, including squirrels, butterflies, a country scene, crowns, vases of flowers, birds, potted flowering plants and fir trees. Framed in an old, gold painted wood frame with rippled, old glass. Mounting: The sampler is tacked to a wooden stretcher frame. Frame backed with paper and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

Origin: England Period: 19th Century Condition: Good. Good. No holes. Slight, pale patchy stains, mainly in top half. No stitch losses. Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
