Description
A massive Americana bowl hand-carved from Elm wood (with some possible burl pattern in the wood) circa 18th century. The bowl was from Northeastern part or Eastern Woodlands of the United States and possibly made by Native Americans. The bowl features a relatively thin wall of slightly irregular shape, with two subtly carved handles under the opposite sides of the rim. The surface is nothing but extraordinary, showing tremendous characters and patina of centuries of genuine use and care. The wood grains are prominent with a deep mellow color, partially darken or obscured by the use. Some gaps between the grains and also scattered parts along the rim and exterior, show a grayish and nearly petrified appearance (those are not chips), possibly from the content contact and longtime care of bee wax. There is an old gap next to one handle, stable and perfectly preserved in time.
A piece of art and history with incredible patina. -
