  • Description
Very rare African Dagara mask Ngbaka people. Africa, Congo, early to mid 20th century

A beautiful early to mid 20th century African so called 'Dagara’ mask from the Ngbaka and Mbanja people from the northwest in Congo. A rare piece, since there are not many masks available from this specific region. These ‘Dagara’ masks are known for the scarification patterns on the nose and forehead and were used during ‘Gaza’ initiation and circumcision rituals.

The mask was held in a private collection in Belgium and comes in a very good and original condition.
