Description
IN "24 Cr Contact Point," a contemporary oil and mixed media painting on canvas, Renée Rey pulls the viewer into a mythically inspired world dominated by depth illusion and anomalies in proportion. Fusing a post-modern oeuvre of abstraction and surrealism, Rey ignites saturated systems of red, blue, and yellow pigments and frenetic lines of graphite pencil to create movement and tension. Suspended in space and time, Rey's imagery is reminiscent of the historical vocabulary of Tiepolo, Constable and Dali. Will the spirited cloud cover, commanding deer, lush flora and fauna and expansive landscape govern the future or will they be at the mercy of technology and progress?
Renée Rey is a painter and mixed media artist working in southwest Florida and New York City. In Rey's telescopic and intimate artwork, she challenges traditional landscapes and self-portraits transforming them in mythopoetic universes disrupting primordial and natural systems. Formal language of abstraction and realism are ruptured and conflated in saturated color, staccato mark-making and symbolic iconography exploring seemingly disparate associations between identity, cultural diversity, science, religion, technology and the environment. During her 26 year career, Rey's artwork has been selected for national awards and exhibitions by art professionals, museum curators and gallerists, and has been collected internationally. The artist has studied visual art and art history on the undergraduate and graduate levels in New York and Florida. She holds an MBA in Management.
