Large Birger Kaipiainen Faience Wall Relief, 9 Women & a Rose, Rörstrand 1950s

A rare and beautiful wall relief featuring different beautifully hand-painted portraits of women, designed by Birger Kaipiainen for Rörstrand and manufactured in Sweden in the 1950s. Kaipiainen spent only 4 years (1954-1958) designing for Rörstrand, a Swedish sister company for the Finnish Arabia Oy were he spent most of his career. This piece is signed "Kaipiainen" & "R, Sweden".

This piece came to us from the personal collection of Edmundo Diquez C., a very successfull and renowned architect from Venezeula.

Birger Kaipiainen (1915-1988) was a master of decorative ceramics. He was especially known for his rich and colorful ornamental dishes, featuring fruits, women, butterflies, flowers, birds etc. usually decorated with beads. Kaipiainen was the leading man in ceramics in mid century Finland. He had a long career as a designer for Arabia Oy, where his artistic ability flourished, as he was given more and more freedoms. As his career went on and he was able to freely express his art, his style became more surreal compared to his early work. Today Kaipiainen is still one of the most celebrated Finnish designers. His recognitions include the Grand Prix award at Milano Di Triennale 1951. And his works are found in numerous museums and private collections.
