DIMENSIONS VARIABLES
-
Description
1999 – 2018
Installation consisting of a double arrow in white neon, delivered with wiring, transfo and installation protocol from the artist.
Daniel Firman created the first version of ” Dimensions variables ” in 1999 for an exhibition entitled ” scattering-gathering “. The artist proposed a reflection about the flexibility which the memory or the body maintain with the objective dimension.
Reflecting on the sign of the arrow, an universal symbol to note a measure, Daniel Firman draws it in A4 size, the standard which we use the most daily.
Two arrows, with a shape of hat, hang on the wall as a wall light, represent a dimension (the dimension of the wall or of a furniture) in the same way as the architect or the carpenter, which built these elements of the everyday life, certainly made it before.
Firman reveals a frequent human exercise: take the dimension of the world. Whether it is to notice or to build it, this exercise of measure of the world is always made from our scale because beyond a certain limit, it becomes difficult for us to build.
The generic title of the series ” Dimensions variables ” is increased with the measure taken by the person who installs the work, conferring on it a sort of uniqueness.
