Description
Mart Visser Large Artwork Mixed Media on Old Theatre Canvas 192 x 112 cm 2017
Mart Visser Large Artwork Mixed Media on Old Theatre Canvas 192 x 112. The Netherlands / France, 2017.
This large work was made in his Tourrettes-sur-Loup atelier in the south of France, 2017. This work presents a monumental, elongated face in muted earth tones: soft ochres, chalky whites, and weathered greys. The surface is richly textured and almost landscape like. Viewed up close the work almost reads like a topographic map.
It is made on an old / antique theatre canvas with a very desirable patina, which adds a deeper layer of history and meaning to the work.
Mart Visser (The Netherlands, 1968) is a Dutch artist and fashion designer. He first became known for haute couture. Alongside his fashion career, Visser developed a significant body of visual art. His paintings, sculptures and reliefs reveal an expressive, tactile language often rooted in abstracted human heads and faces, layered structures, and materials with visible history. He frequently works with wood, metal, textiles and textured or salvaged surfaces.
The work comes from the first owner and is in excellent condition. Signed both at the front and the back.
