Ota Janeček (1919 - 1996) Reclining Nude with Raised Arms, charcoal on paper circa 1940 signed 'Janecek' lower right

Known for his expressive portraits of women this early Janeček nude is a fine example of his use of pure line and form. Deeply influenced by the simplicity and beauty of Mattise, Modigliani and the school of Paris.

Janeček's work is represented in the permanent collections of the, National Gallery Prague, Tate (London), Bibliothèque nationale (Paris), National Gallery of Wales, Tochigi Prefectural Museum (Japan), McNay Museum (San Antonio)
