PAIR OF EARLY 18TH CENTURY ROYAL PORTRAITS OF THE YOUNG LOUIS XV OF FRANCE AND THE YOUNG MARIE-ANNE VICTOIRE OF SPAIN.
Louis XV (15 February 1710 – 10 May 1774) He succeeded his great-grandfather Louis XIV at the age of five. The painting shows the young king probably at the age of about 10 years when he was betrothed to his cousin Marie-Anne-Victoire d’Espagne. Wearing his ermine cape adorned with the royal regalia including the chain and cross of the order of the Holy Spirit.
Marie-Anne-Victoire d’Espagne (31 March 1718 - 15 January 1781) daughter of Phillip V of Spain and Elizabeth Farnese. The painting shows the young Spanish princess at the time of her betrothal to her cousin Louis XV King of France. She wears an elaborate silk court dress with lace sleeves and an ermine lined blue velvet cape with gilt flour de lys, the symbol of France.
Oil on canvas, in originial stretcher's and in period gilt wood frames. France circa 1720.
