Paper Mache circus tiger wall mask, 1890, Germany

Sold Sold
  • Description
This wonderful paper mache Tiger's mask would have hung a tone time as a decoration in a circus or carnival, most likely in a tent or around a carousel. The most unusual part is that this tigers mount opens, why and how it was used is unknown to me.
The quality of the work is fantastic, these pieces were most likely made in Germany. Most of the best paper mache was made by family owned company's that have been in business since the early 18th Century working in many kinds of paper mache art from toy, dolls, desk accessories, circus decorations and many other unusual items.
A great item for the collector of circus, carnival art or for the decorator looking for a very unusual wall decoration.
