Commanding in scale and quietly powerful in message, "Climb It" (2024) is a monumental nine-and-a-half-foot abstract oil painting by artist Kathy Robinson Frank. Inspired by her sweeping view of the Shawangunk and Catskill Mountains from her home in the Hudson Valley, the work is both a love letter to nature and a meditative reflection on its fragility. In layered gestures of pale ochre, forest greens, soft lavenders, blacks, whites, and misty grays, Robinson Frank conjures an abstracted mountainous terrain—a landscape as remembered, felt, and revered.

The painting evokes a deep connection to place: the experience of climbing the mountain, living in its shadow, and being held by the valley that cradles it. At the same time, "Climb It" is a quiet warning. Its title references not only the topography, but the word "climate" which connotes global warning and the shifting ecological weather extremes that imperil these cherished vistas. With painterly restraint and emotive depth, Frank balances reverence and urgency in equal measure.

Born in New York City, Robinson Frank began painting early in life. As a teenager, she studied at the Art Students League before earning her B.A. from Bard College, where her artistic vision was shaped by the expressive lineage of Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg, and Larry Rivers. Her work has been exhibited widely across the Northeast and beyond, including the Provincetown Art Association, the Kleinert/James Center in Woodstock, the Bell Gallery in Rhinebeck and Woodstock, AMP Gallery in Provincetown, MA, and the Wired Gallery in High Falls, New York. Kathi has had solo exhibitions at PS 209 Gallery in Stone Ridge and at the Wired Gallery and participated in many group shows including one at the FirstDibs Gallery in Manhattan.

Monumental in scale and meaning, this piece transforms any space it inhabits. Whether displayed on a long, clean wall in a contemporary home, anchoring a corporate or residential lobby, or adding gravity and movement to a sophisticated restaurant interior, "Climb It" brings with it a sense of place, urgency, and poetic force.
