Description
This elegant and sophisticated mixed media work, entitled "Applepeppers" was created by Robert Juarez, in 1986. Employing acrylic paint and collage elements (including muslin), Juarez has created a striking composition that is both abstract and figurative. The composition offers an amorphic java band across the lower quadrant of the composition on which two orbital ruby forms (presumably stylized red delicious apples) sit. An subtly undulating green cylindrical line connects these spherical forms from which a group of curvilinear conical forms (peppers) hang with expressionistic lattice work detailing in black oil stick. The background is composed of diaphanous color blocks of ecur, acquamarine and ecru.
With its dramatic use of color, refined palate and dynamic composition, this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of modern and contemporary art as well as those with a penchant for exquisite objects. This piece was included in the 1987 Whitney Museum of American Art Biennale (for which we have the accompanying paperwork) with an insurance value of $20k.
