Description
American School, late 19th c. Alpine Skiers
Signed (l.l.) illegibly
Oil on canvas
32” x 27” with frame
Over-all in fine condition, minor in-painting in sky. In a period, 19th c. frame.
The painting is mounted on a white pine stretcher with iron corner brackets, dated 1889, which suggest it was painted in the northeast. The painting depicts two people in 19th century ski gear traversing down a snow-covered mountain. American portraits of skiers from the 19th century are scarce to find.
