Oil on canvas painting of a beauty holding a yellow rose by the American artist, Frank Russell Green. Circa 1895. Relined canvas. Signed lower left. In a period gold leaf and ebonized frame in fine condition. Overall framed size is 35.5 by 25.5 inches.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Frank Russell Green earned a reputation for his realist genre scenes, still lifes, and figure paintings. In the 1880s, he studied in Paris at the Académie Julian with Gustave Boulanger and Jules Joseph Lefebvre. Russell also lived in Boston and New York City for short periods, where he worked as an illustrator for established publishing houses. Later in his career he focused his attention on figural paintings. Green belonged to the American Watercolor Society, the New York Watercolor Club, the Salmagundi Club, the Lotos Club, and was also an Associate member of the National Academy of Design.
